What is Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI)?

The NDIS Early Childhood approach supports children aged 0–9 with developmental delay or disability, and their families. It's based on the principle that early support has the greatest impact on a child's development.

Under ECEI, children access support through a local partner — usually an allied health practice or community organisation — without needing a formal NDIS plan at first.

For children with significant or permanent disability, an NDIS plan is developed. This funds therapy, specialist support, and other interventions tailored to the child's goals.

Services commonly included in ECEI plans:

Occupational therapy (OT)
Speech pathology
Physiotherapy
Psychology and behaviour support
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA / EIBI)
DIR/Floortime therapy
Early childhood education specialist support
Parent/carer training and coaching
Assistive technology assessment
Social skills programs and groups
